  • Becka Mansheim sets record in last SDSU appearance

Brookings native, Becka Mansheim, set a new school and SD collegiate record for 1500 meters in finishing fourth at the Victoria International Track Classic in Vancouver, BC, Wednesday night.  Mansheim ran 4:22.81, a personal best by about two seconds.  She was trying to hit the provisional qualifying time for the US Olympic trials, 4:19.

    Here's the story on GoJacks.com:

Weather conditions were not ideal: windy and cool.

ADDED: On the Sunday prior to the Vancouver meet, Becca won the 800 meters at a meet in Richmond, British Columbia, Can., in 2:11.65...her personal best and the fifth fastest women's 800 meters on the SDSU all-time best listing. http://www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.d...;ATCLID=921297

Becka has developed into a great runner who continually improved throughout her collegiate career.  She was awarded her degree in nursing and is getting married this fall.

I wonder if she'll keep running.  By all indicators, she will continue to improve...not many athletes continue to set personal records throughout their collegiate careers.  When she steps on the track at a big meet (e.g. Drake Relays), everyone in the race knows who she is and what she can do.
