  • Conference Leaders...Conference Champions

This is a pretty picture for the men and the women. Thru games of February 13th. Need two more big wins tonight, and a little help out of Augie wouldn't hurt.

    Re: Conference Leaders...Conference Champions

I think the most telling stat is the improvement in the points against category. A reflection of the much improved defense being played, especially by the men's team. As I have said before, they have plenty of scorers and on any given night someone will put up points. The key to continued success is tough team defense.

Things really fell into place nicely last night.  Big wins by MSU and USD.  We really need this win tonight.  Then, we can roll into Frost in 1st place alone next week and get our revenge against the MN teams.  I will be there and I can't wait.   The team must not look past UND tonight, however.  Defense, defense, defense and a few baskets here and there.

      Minnesota State 86
      Nebraska-Omaha 74

      South Dakota State 88
      North Dakota State 71

      North Dakota 70
      Augustana 60

      South Dakota 91
      St. Cloud State (OT) 84

        Mens Basketball Standings
        NCC Overall

        South Dakota State 7 3 (23 3)
        North Dakota State 7 3 (15 9)
        Nebraska-Omaha 6 4 (16 7)
        Minnesota State 5 5 (17 7)
        St. Cloud State 5 5 (15 8)
        South Dakota 5 5 (15 7)
        North Dakota 4 6 (14 10)
        Augustana 1 9 (5 18)

Current standings above. N.D. schools are down south this weekend with the MN schools in S.D. Last weekend of the season MN schools are in N.D. and we travel south.

First things first, we need a sweep this weekend. That puts us at 9-3 and SCSU and MSU at 6-6 (assuming they both beat Augie, either way they are both out of the conference title race if we win).

At best NDSU splits this weekend (could lose both as UNO/USD are playing well) that leaves them at 8-4 (if they split). This puts them in good position to finish the year with 2 wins at home and a 10-4 record.

If UNO wins both (could happen) they would also be 8-4. Then, they would need a sweep at home over SDSU and Augie to finish 10-4.

If USD sweeps they move to 7-5, meaning they would need to sweep the last weekend and we would need to go 0-2 (as well as losses by NDSU and UNO) for USD to tie for the league title (all but impossible).

My point, it seems like every game we play is the biggest game of the year!! You know SCSU and MSU will be coming to Frost hoping to bump us off and keep their NCC and regional hopes alive. Losses and they are out of the NCC hunt.

What I am saying is that 2 wins this weekend are at least (if not more) important to the Jacks. So, get off your butts and show-up at Frost this weekend!! These 2 games mean more than any previous win or loss this year. A sweep this weekend and we are poised to win the conference, host the tourney and secure a #1 seed in the regional!! GO JACKS!!!
