  • Wrestlers Defeat Wyoming

The wrestlers opened WWC action by beating Wyoming for the first time in school history.

Coach Bono is getting this program turned around. Great win! I'm excited for next year as Bono has redshirted most of his great recruiting class from last year.

This great news. A pick up after Saturday's bb game. Coach Bono has things going in the right direction. No doubt about it.

If you have never watched Coach Bono's "Jacked Up Monday's" videos here is the one from today after beating Wyoming on Sunday. Good stuff. Great passion from Bono, his staff and the wrestlers.

The Jacks got their second straight conference win, this time it was a 18-14 win over Air Force. Good job wrestlers, and good job Coach Bono and staff......Get Jacked!!!!

It was quite a match, and while every win contributed to the victory, there were some really key ones. The first IMO came in the heavyweight match where JJ Everard won in overtime in an exceptionally close match. That made the score 12-3 in favor of the Jacks, while it would have been 9-6 if it had gone the other way and made it a completely different match. In the 125-pound clash, Ben Gillette was a huge underdog against AFA's Josh Matinez, who is ranked 5th in the country and sat out Saturday's match against NDSU. While he got majored, Gillette did a terrific job in avoiding a tech fall or pin. And when it came down to the final two matches, SDSU needed to win both. Redshirt freshman Alex Kocer from Wagner, won his match, and then Cody Pack faced a wrestler he had lost to in the four times they had previously wrestled against each other, and Pack, who has really bought in and matured this year, turned the trick for the 18-14 win. Way to go JACKS!!

You can really see the improvement in this team and how they have bought in to coach Bono's philosophy. I'm excited for the future of this program.

With their second straight conference win, they now have more conference wins this year than the last 6 years combined.
