  • South Dakota Recruits 2014 and Beyond

I'm putting this here rather than the regular recruiting thread because it pertains to the future and not necassarily just guys that are interested in SDSU. This is informational more than anything. There are probably more than these guys, but these are just the players I've heard of.

    Class of 2014:
Dan Marlette - A 6'2 195lbs ATH from Washington with offers from SDSU, NDSU, and USD. Highlights...http://www.hudl.com/athlete/811143/highlights/39860385

Nick Jensen - A 6'5 280lbs OG from Vermillion. Has interest from SDSU. Highlights...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qOC2q8nKLQ

Shay Bratland - A 2-star 5'11 199lbs ATH from Watertown. He is going to be one of the top sprinters in the state this year. Has interest from SDSU, USD, and UNI.
    Rivals Page...http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ratland-148236 Highlights...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lvxiiyof_3Q

Caden Quintanilla - A 5'9 175lbs RB from Lincoln. Small but quick. Has some interest from SDSU.
    Highlights....http://www.ncsasports.org/football-r...en-quintanilla

Erik Ode - A 6'3 290+lbs OL/DL from Brandon Valley. Not sure if he is getting any interest, but he is big, strong, and from BV so there is a good chance.
    Highlights(he's 78)....http://www.hudl.com/athlete/712484/highlights/41472622

    Class of 2015:
Taryn Christion - A 6'1 185lbs QB/ATH from Roosevelt. This kid is lightning quick and is going to be a top sprinter in the state this year. Has already received alot of interest from multiple Big 10 teams as well as SDSU and USD.
    Rivals page....http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ristion-153155 Highlights...http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1779815/highlights/36486406

Grant Schmidt - a 6'7 290lbs OT from Roosevelt. He already has offers from SDSU, Minnesota, and Washington State with plenty of bigger BCS interest(think schools like Alabama). Rivals...http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...ollege_choices
He is already listed as a 4-star from 247....http://247sports.com/Player/Grant-Schmidt-32508
    Highlights...http://www.hudl.com/athlete/749524/highlights/38755373

Mikey Daniel - A 5'11 200lbs ATH from Brookings, but recently transfered to IMG Academy in Florida. Aldready has an offer from SDSU and tons of Big 12, Big 10, Pac 12, and SEC interest.
    Rivals page... http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...-Daniel-146418 Highlights...http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1335399/highlights/17346397

    Class of 2016:
Matt Farniok - A 6'5 290lbs OL from Washington. His oldest brother is the starting center for Iowa State(will probably get drafted) and his other brother is a OT for Oklahoma. He already has an offer from Iowa State. He is going to be big time, already won an MVP award at the Oklahoma Sooner Lineman camp. Wouldn't suprise me if he is a high 4-star player by the time he is a senior. Rivals...http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...Farniok-146452

Re: South Dakota Recruits 2014 and Beyond

I'm marveling. Remembering my earlier, unanswered post, showing that the heaviest person on the OU 1968, top ten, tied Kansas for first Big 8 co-champ was 220, and that the entire offensive line averaged a bit over 200. I know, I'm a geezer and 45 years ago was the same as some old timer from the 1920's marveling that they had bars on helmets in the late sixties, but SWEET MOTHER OF GOD,,,,high school kids outweigh seniors on a good football team from the late sixties by eighty pounds. Am I really that old? (answer: yes)

So in 45 more years will we see 6'10" linemen that weigh 420 lbs and run a 4.5?

I will be pushing 95 years old, and if I'm not senial or 6' under, I would love to see that!

(Our high school had a kid last year that easily weighed in excess of 420 lbs. During his 8th grade year they borrowed pants from the college in Kearney, but by his sophomore year they had to special order. During his freshman year, they had to call a timeout just to get him on the field and in place. Needless to say, he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. The kid had a heart of gold and stuck out football for 5 years.)

And I wonder if I will be breathing when the 2018 Summit tourney happens.

Since the late 1960's there have tons of enhancements in conditioning. When I took weightlifting for a PE credit, they did not have much equipment at all. You often stood in line to get your chance to do your thing. Its not surprising the athletes are getting bigger and better, even with the illegal substances.
