  • Phillip LaVallee - fatally hit by van on training run

A van crossed over to the far shoulder of a rural road in Wright County and fatally struck a college runner a few weeks before the former high school standout was to report for his second season of competing, authorities and school officials said Friday.

Sad day to be a jackrabbit.

LaVallee was a great student and runner...he brought a lot of upside potential for our track and field and cross country teams. As a true freshman last year, he finished 15th in the Summit League Cross Country Championships, running as SDSU's fifth runner in winning the team conference title. Here's his roster bio on gojacks.com following last season: http://www.gojacks.com/ViewArticle.d...&Q_SEASON=2012

        Very tragic.

LaVallee appears to be a very common French name, but there was on the fb. team with Wayne Haensel, a Ron LaVallee who was I believe a QB. I suspect Ron would fit as a grandfather or great grandfather. I don't think we have a connection here, but you never know. My heart goes out the LaVallee family, such a difficult loss to deal with. My sincere condolences.
