How does Ross Shafrath not make one of the 3 teams? Didn't he finish in the top 3 or 5 in solo tackles in all of FCS??

Yeah his stats were more then enough. I feel he was the manti teo of sdsu. Lb who did it all.

Also wondered how NDSU only gets one defensive player on any of the teams. #1 defense in the country and only Marcus Williams makes it? No Grant Olson?

I think the numbers are interesting in where the players are from. Defending champion, #1 rated NDSU gets 2 players on the teams. Nine other schools had more than that.

4 Players - Appalachian State (Sports Network ranked #7, GPI #11)

            3 - Alabama State (SPN #NR, GPI #NR)
            Central Arkansas (8,5)
            Colgate (24, NR)
            Eastern Washington (4,4)
            Northern Arizona (20,19)
            Sam Houston State (5,3)
            Stony Brook (10,23)
            Tennessee State (NR, NR)

            2 - 18 Teams
            NDSU (1,1)
            SDSU (19,7)
            Illinois St (16,10)
            Indiana St (23,15)
            Montana St (2,2)
            Montana (NR, NR)
            Georgia So (6,8)
            Old Dominion (3,9)

            1 - Cal Poly (12,6)
            Missouri St (NR, NR)
            Northern Iowa (NR, 20)
            So Illinois (NR, 16)
            North Dakota (NR, NR)

The Missouri Valley got 11 players on the list of 97.

While we believe Shafrath was worthy of making the list, it surprises me that NDSU's defense only got one player named All-American - Marcus Williams. I guess it is a testament to the depth of their team, or that Williams so outshined the rest of the defense.

Both first team RB's are seniors from east coast schools. A sophomore from the midwest isn't getting that recognition.
