  • Samaritan's Feet

One of the Jackrabbit football parents forwarded this e-mail to me. Please take time to read it and decide if you want to contribute, participate.

    Parents,

I am forwarding information on to all of you regarding this weekends football game. This is an excellent opportunity for our boys to display their support for such a good cause. As it states in the letter, this is the first time any Division I football team has done this in the country and the JACKRABBITS are going to display their support by removing their shoes after the game. Where we as parents come in, we are going to support the Samaritan's Feet and the Jackrabbit football team by purchasing the wrist bands for our son's. This has been approved by the MVFC to be a part of their uniform so all the boys will be wearing one. I am asking the parents to help support this by sending $10 to help in the purchase of the wrist bands. Checks can be made payable to Samaitan's Feet. My adddress is; 1608 Locust Ave, Brandon, SD 57005. Additional wrist bands will be available to purchase at the game under the stands. They will have a table set up there.

For each wrist band, this will provide a pair of shoes for someone in need. I remember when my boys were younger how excited they were to get a new pair of shoes whether it be for school or sports. As a little guy, they would say "look how fast I can run now" and they would run all over the house and yard. As they got older, they would take more time looking for the right pair of shoes then they would clothes. So lets show our support and help make someone happy with a new pair of shoes!!

Please send $10 to me by September 21st or if you will be at the game you can give the check to me at the tailgate area which is in the northwest corner along the road behind the Dykhouse or I will also be at the VFW after the game. I will then deliver the money to Denise from Samaritan's Feet (she lives in Sioux Falls) on September 24th.

Thank You all for your support and GO JACKS!!!!
    Lori

Samaritan's Feet is an organization based in Charlotte, NC, that was founded by Manny and Tracie Ohonme. (See link below). As part of their mission to distribute 10 million pairs of new shoes to 10 million people both in the US and world-wide in 10 years, many coaches use their athletic platform and coach in the bare feet to draw awareness to the fact that 300 million people around the world go without shoes each day and over 1 million die each year as the result of foot borne illnesses.

SDSU Head Men's BB Coach, Scott Nagy, coached his first barefoot game in January, 2009, on behalf of Samaritan's Feet. He even did a second barefoot game last season when the Jacks played in the Bracketbusters game that was televised on ESPN. Now, SDSU Head Football Coach John Stiegelmeier has stepped up to become the first Division I coach in the country to do a barefoot game on behalf of Samaritan's Feet. As a symbolic gesture of servant leadership and humility, Coach Stig, his staff and players, will also remove their shoes at the end of Saturday's game and walk off the field together in their bare feet. As part of the barefoot game, Coach Stig has asked the FB players to wear an orange Samaritan's Feet wristband to also show their support. This is where all of you come in. For a $10 donation, you can purchase a wristband for your player to wear on Saturday. We would also love for your family and friends to be a part of this, too! The wristbands will be sold prior to the game at the stadium and at the SDSU Bookstore. These funds will go toward the funding of shoe distributions here in SD. Several SDSU FB players were part of a shoe distribution this past June in Pine Ridge, SD. I encourage you to visit our website to get a better feel for what the organization is all about and have included several video links for your viewing pleasure.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 605-310-39478 or at denise.blomberg@yahoo.com.

Blessings to all of you and your families and safe travels to Brookings for the game. See you on Saturday! GO BIG! GO BLUE! GO JACKS!
