  • MVFC Week 1

Tough early start for the two Valley teams in action tonight. Western Illinois is trailing Sam Houston State 13-0 at the half and Illinois State is behind 12-2 late in the 2nd quarter.

I've been watching the Western Illinois game on ESPN3 and they've looked pretty rough so far. The offensive line has been manhandled up to this point. They've played a couple of QB's as well, neither have had much luck

Western Illinois lost to Sam Houston 20-6. Game was not as close as the score indicated as the Sam Houston pretty much controlled the entire game with the exception of one long pass play for a TD from Western Illinois in the 4th. Lots of work to be done by the Leatherneck offense.

Illinois State is now leading Eastern Illinois 19-12 at the start of the 4th qtr.

More of that legendary ISU-Red defense. With that offense, if they could play any kind of decent defense, they'd be title contenders.

Well obviously the score that stands out here it the UNI/IaSt score. The Cyclones scored late to win too. UNI typically plays well in the games against the in-state FBS foes. But they're pretty good too, I'd say.

Friday night, Youngstown played at Michigan State, losing 28-6. BUT, watching the game on the BigTenNetwork...half way through the second quarter, Youngstown scored a TD but the extra-point kick was blocked due primarily to a bad snap which messed the play up. So, with a little more than 7:00 to play in the first half, Michigan State leads 7-6. At this point, Youngstown looks just fine and its passing game looks pretty good.

Watching the game to see what happend to cause the 28-6 final.
